Eataly and the Italian American Committee on Education (IACE) have announced the launch of the initiative Short Food Movie: The Oscars at Eataly, an extension of the EXPO Milan 2015 Short Food Movie program themed Feed Your Mind, Film Your Planet. IACE students are encouraged to submit a 30-to-60-second video that presents his or her perspective on food and life to IACE and to EXPO; each contest will announce three winners in May 2015. IACE will conclude its contest with the celebration The Oscars at Eataly, inviting students to a screening of the top three short food movies and an awards ceremony. EXPO will unveil an enormous video installation comprising all of the submitted short food movies, which will be seen by millions of people across the world.
The Eataly and IACE contest will be held within the framework of the Italian organizations’ standing collaboration. Throughout the academic year, IACE students embark on tours of Eataly’s marketplace, offering students an insider’s perspective and exposing them to the importance of fresh, whole foods; the significance of the Slow Food movement; and ways to incorporate healthy food into their lifestyle. The tours culminate in a cooking demonstration of simple, traditional Italian dishes, fostering healthy eating habits and encouraging young adults to cook at home with provided recipes to take home. Italian vocabulary, phrases, and basic grammar are incorporated.
After the tours, students will be prepared to create their video, which should be inspired by the theme of nutrition and its related topics: the importance of a healthy diet, the role of the territory, the social necessity of a worldwide availability of healthy products, and the creation of a sustainable and fair development. The video can be filmed using a smartphone, tablet, or video camera.
In May 2015, winners of the IACE and the EXPO contests will be announced. The IACE contest winners will be determined by a committee led by Chef Lidia Bastianich, author, television personality, and Eataly partner. The committee comprises Maria Teresa Cometto, author, journalist, and IACE vice president; Mario Fratti, author of the musical Nine and IACE board member; and Claudio Angelini, president of the Dante Alighieri Society in New York. The IACE winners with the top three videos will receive either a dinner for four people at Eataly’s fine-dining restaurant, Manzo; a tasting tour of Eataly led by a brand ambassador for four people; and an Eataly gift box, filled with delicious high-quality products directly imported from Italy. The EXPO winners will receive a trip to Milan to explore the Universal Exposition, in addition to the inclusion of all participants’ videos in the short food movie installation.
