Apple has officially announced on its official blog that it is looking for a hacker who will be able to test the security of its new artificial intelligence system christened Apple Intelligence. Those who are up to the task of hacking Private Cloud Compute (PCC) will receive a reward of up to $1 million. In detail, the absolute highest reward will go to the person or team that manages to execute malicious code by successfully corrupting PCC servers.
On Oct. 28 Apple launched Apple Intelligence integrated with the iOS 18.1 operating system with advanced features. The purpose of the new operating system is in fact, to provide the user with personalized functions through AI. To test the new system, Apple has also planned minor rewards of $250,000 that will be given to those who are able to identify ways that could allow hackers to extract user data from Apple’s AI cloud. In addition, the $150,000 will also go to anyone who can gain access to users’ private data.
However, this is not the first time the Cupertino-based company has resorted to hackers to test its security systems or make available a “special researcher-only iPhone designed for hacking,” that is, an iPhone made available for the specific purpose of being hacked and then tested.
As stated on Apple’s official website, the Apple Intelligence system is deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. “Apple sets a new standard for privacy in artificial intelligence.” The test promoted by Apple therefore is closely related to the concept of privacy and security that the company intends to ensure for its users. In this regard, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, says that “access to information is done in a totally private and secure way to help people do the things they care about most. This is AI as only Apple can offer it, and we can’t wait for users to find out what it can do.”
