More and more calamities are being uncovered as Israel grapples with the aftermath of Saturday’s attacks. Just this morning Israeli soldiers led journalists to Kfar Aza, a small kibbutz located near the border, where the massacred villagers still lay in their houses and bedrooms.
70 Hamas terrorists stormed the kibbutz with guns and grenades, indiscriminately killing families and children. More than 40 babies or toddlers were found among the dead, some were even beheaded.
‘You see the babies, the mothers, the fathers, in their bedrooms, in their protection rooms and how the terrorist kills them. It’s not a war, it’s not a battlefield. It’s a massacre, it’s a terror activity,’ said Israeli Major General Itai Veruv of the Israeli Defense Force (IDF).
Initial images that are emerging are harrowing: baby dresses and carriers soaked red, doors riddled with bullet holes and more blood. Reporters recount seeing babies lying next to their cots with their heads chopped off.
The fighting that began on Saturday and continued into Sunday forced the IDF to fight through tiers of Hamas combatants, they were only recently able to clear the area around Kfar Aza and address the casualties there.
“Tell the world what you see here,” says an IDF soldier.
Israel has said its border with Gaza is now secure and that the bodies of about 1,500 militants have been found, three days after Hamas fighters broke through to launch a surprise attack. At least 830 people, including at least 140 children, have been killed in Gaza, while over 1,000 have been killed in Israel.
In the meantime, hospitals in Gaza are being overwhelmed and there’s a severe shortage of supplies as Israel continues its bombardment of the densely populated enclave.
