It’s just one snapshot in time, but it’s something to be happy about if you’re the DeSantis campaign.
An InsiderAdvantage national survey of 850 likely Republican caucus and primary voters conducted on Thursday has Florida’s governor netting 18% support, nearly doubling his support from the 9.7% he got in the previous administration of the poll before the first debate.
Most of those eight points actually came from Donald Trump’s support; he fell from 51% to 45%, meaning DeSantis’ deficit was reduced from 41% to 27%.
Former South Carolina governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who many saw as a standout debate performer, is in third place in this poll with 11% support. She previously was at just 4.8%.
Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, the candidate most pundits said “won” the debate, now has 7% support, a slight improvement from the 6.3% he had previously.
DeSantis and Haley certainly have surged in this poll, but keep in mind that these results will have to be replicated to prove this survey is not some outlier.
And while Trump may seem to be lagging, he’s laughing all the way to the bank with his cold hard cash. He raised over $7 million dollars following his booking in Georgia, in large part due to his mugshot. $4.18 million of that came on the day after, the single-highest 24 hour period of his 2024 campaign.
