Jim Walden, former assistant U.S. attorney and candidate for New York mayor as an independent, has announced that he will file a lawsuit against X Corp after the social network permanently banned his personal account.
During a press statement, Walden accused Musk’s platform of engaging in “deceptive business practices” and that the latter are a substantial violation of New York State law.
Jeff Colin, a reporter for Politico, who is covering the case, said, “Twitter has become more complicated for political candidates. Jim Walden is suing X for shadowbanning, the day after he tried to bait Elon Musk into some engagement.”
As a matter of fact, this is not the first time that Walden has resorted to legal action against X; in 2023, he represented a Saudi aid worker who was identified, detained, and then tortured after the social network X released his personal information to Saudi officials.
The suit alleged that Twitter “enabled acts of murder, kidnapping, and torture” by mistakenly handing over users’ personal information to the regime.
Walden launched his campaign in late November to succeed Mayor Eric Adams and is now trying to secure a place on the ballot as an independent. His campaign has brought in former Democratic governor David Paterson, a former Adams ally, as an adviser and has captured considerable local media attention as a strong contender.
