An attorney who kickstarted one of former president Donald Trump’s many failed legal challenges to the 2020 election results gave up his law license willingly Wednesday rather than face disbarment.
L. Lin Wood, 70, was facing disbarment in his home state of Georgia, but then said he would retire.
In his retirement letter, Wood said that based on the facts on the ground, he would be “prohibited from practicing law in this State and in any other state or jurisdiction and that I may not reapply for admission.”
Shortly after Joe Biden was declared the winner of Georgia, Wood filed a lawsuit attempting to stop the certification of the results, but it was tossed.
Wood attempted to fight the disbarment proceedings, but those challenges were also rejected. Two months ago, he clashed with special master Thomas Cauthorn during a hostile disciplinary hearing.
