The Achilles injury Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered in his first ever game with the team last week was not only emotionally gut-wrenching for fans to watch, but also to learn more about. The consensus is that Rodgers, one of the greatest football players ever, will miss the entire 2023 campaign.
Rodgers himself does not agree with that prognosis, though.
On Friday, fresh off of surgery to repair his left Achilles tendon, the four-time NFL MVP joined the “Pat McAfee Show” to offer thanks for the outpouring and support. He also said that he’s not ruling out a potential early return to the field: “I think as Kevin Garnett said, ‘Anything is possible.'”
“I think what I’d like to say is…Give me the doubts. Give me the timetables. Give me all the things that you think can, should or will happen. Because all I need is that one little extra percent of inspiration. That’s all I need.”
“Give me your timetables, give me your doubts, give me your prognostications and then watch what I do.”
Rodgers essentially confirmed what an Instagram post he made earlier in the week suggested: he’ll progress through the rehab process and he expects to play for the Jets again in 2024.
Rodgers also admitted that the injury (which he knew was bad the moment it happened) left him distraught, given when it happened and it’s severity. But even so he remained adamant about being hopeful.
“Stack all the odds up against me and see what happens,” Rodgers said.
He turns 40 on December 2nd, so it remains to be seen if Father Time has other plans for his playing career.
