In a rather shocking development, Saquon Barkley is back in with the Giants.
On Tuesday morning, the two sides agreed on a one-year, $11 million contract that includes a $2 million signing bonus.
Barkley was lined up to make just over $10.1 million even without a deal, but now he makes a little bit more as the Giants agreed to add $900,000 in incentives so that Barkley can earn up to $11 million, and pay $2 million upfront now. Now Barkley will not have to wait until the regular season starts to earn his pay.
Barkley cannot sign a long-term contract with the Giants this season due to NFL rules, but he can sign a one-year deal that differs from the franchise tender he would have gotten with no contract.
Just days after Barkley indicated that he was angry with the team and considering sitting out, the Giants have placated him. After this season, the Giants can either franchise tag Barkley again, sign him to a long-term contract, or let him try out free agency.
