A United Airlines flight bound for New York was evacuated Sunday morning after flames erupted from one of its wings during takeoff in Houston, causing panic among passengers.
Video footage captured by Fox 26 shows frightened travelers reacting as fire became visible on the aircraft’s wing just as it began its acceleration down the runway at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
The Airbus A320, operating as United Airlines Flight 1382, was forced to abort takeoff shortly after 8:30 a.m. due to what officials described as a “reported engine issue,” according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Passengers were swiftly evacuated onto the tarmac, where they were then transported to the terminal by bus, the FAA confirmed. Emergency crews from the Houston Fire Department assisted in the evacuation, ensuring that all passengers and crew exited safely. No injuries were reported.
The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the fire.
