The U.S. Transportation Security Agency (TSA) administration today released the agency’s canine calendar for 2025. It is an annual tradition aimed at honoring the more than 1,000 trained dogs that work closely with lead agents to detect explosives at airports throughout the United States. The TSA 2025 canine calendar is already available via download on the agency’s official website.
Each year, approximately 300 new recruits of various canine breeds are trained in an intensive 16-week program at the TSA Canine Training Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.
It’s during this time that guided by their human handlers with whom they form a strong bond of cooperation and affection, they learn to detect a wide variety of explosives by sense of smell. At the same time, during the training they are stimulated to socialize to adapt to the very crowded and chaotic environments of airports. At the end of the educational course they are assigned to their permanent duty stations.
To create the TSA 2025 canine calendar, 13 extraordinary dogs were chosen from 80 of those submitted by TSA teams. For each month, a photo was taken depicting these efficient but also friendly four-legged heroes. On the cover, however, appears a portrait of Barni, a five-year-old Pointer who won the TSA canine competition under the title “Cutest Canine Winner.” The animal was assigned to the San Francisco International Airport where he stood out for his calm and professional demeanor with a sweet and playful side. Indeed, it is no coincidence that dogs of his breed are described as “especially friendly with a heart of gold.”
