The 2025 Jubilee is approaching and Pope Francis is laying out new ground rules for the smooth functioning of the momentous event. On June 29, the day of the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, the Vatican News reported new rules applying to the “Fabbrica di San Pietro,” the institution responsible for the conservation and maintenance of St. Peter’s Basilica.
It is a call for “decorum, diligence, and responsibility.”
Both the master artisans (called Sampietrini), and the lay employees hired for the 2025 Jubilee in particular, must not have piercings or visible tattoos. Nor can they wear the official Fabbrica uniform outside of the workplace, in order to meet decency standards.
They are also not allowed to join associations whose purposes are not compatible with the Church dogma and practices. Equally, couples living together outside of marriage will be rejected as employees. Additionally, the official Fabbrica stamps, letterhead or software cannot be used for personal purposes.
Another rule that is being emphasized is that non-employees cannot be admitted to the offices. Employees who violate this rule “will be fired or suspended if they are found to be sharing information with outsiders or taking original documents, photocopies, or other archival material.”
