A suspect has been arrested following a series of killings and shootings in two Central Texas cities that left six people dead and three others injured, including two police officers, authorities announced during news conferences in Austin and the San Antonio region.
Austin Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson stated during a press conference a male suspect has been charged with capital murder and that further charges are pending. The suspect is unnamed by the police.
“The nature of the relationship, if any, between the victims and the suspect is unknown,” Chief Henderson said.
She also mentioned that the unidentified person could be connected to a another killing case in Bexar County, which is located farther south.
According to Chief Henderson, the first shooting happened early on Tuesday when the suspect fired and injured an Austin school system police. Following reports of gunfire nearby, Northeast Early College High School was placed under lockdown, the Austin police stated on Tuesday. Wayne Sneed, the police chief for the school district, informed reporters that an officer who had been wounded in the leg was in stable condition.
The second incident happened later on Tuesday morning in a location south of the first one and resulted in the double homicide of a man and a woman.
According to Chief Henderson, the third occurrence involved a male biker who reported on Tuesday afternoon that he had been shot in a non-lethal way.
Henderson added that on Tuesday night, as police responded to a report of a break-in, they discovered the culprit in the house’s backyard. The officer returned fire, taking many non-life-threatening bullet wounds from the perpetrator. Later, while being chased by police, the suspect got away in a car and smashed it.

In a related development, the Bexar County authorities, which encompass the city of San Antonio, said on Tuesday that they believe the Austin suspect may have been connected to the two killings that occurred in the San Antonio region early on Tuesday.
