A court decided on Friday that Ivanka Trump must testify in the civil fraud lawsuit against her father, her brothers, and the family company.
The decision was made several weeks into the trial in which New York Attorney General Letitia James was suing former President Donald Trump, his sons Eric and Don Jr., the Trump Organization, and a few executives.
Ivanka Trump’s attorneys and the defense argued that she shouldn’t have to take the stand after she was removed from the case months ago, pointing out that she left New York and resigned from her position with the Trump Organization in 2017. The former executive vice president of the Trump Organization possesses pertinent information, according to the state’s attorneys.
Citing evidence that Ivanka Trump still owns homes in Manhattan and has management or ownership links to many New York enterprises, Judge Arthur Engoron sided with the state.
The former president is accused in James’ case of lying to banks, insurers, and other parties about his wealth for years in order to assist him get loans and business transactions.
