The body of Pamela Alcantara, a 26-year-old woman reported missing in the Bronx, was discovered Thursday morning inside an abandoned suitcase near the Saw Mill River Creek in Yonkers, authorities said.
Alcantara was last seen Saturday night at her apartment building in Fordham Heights, Bronx. Concerned family members contacted the police after she failed to respond to calls, particularly given that she had recently ended a three-year relationship and was in the process of moving.
Days before her disappearance, Alcantara made a distressing phone call to her mother, saying, “Mom, pray for me,” but did not elaborate. She had told her mother she planned to attend a church service, but she never arrived.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Alcantara’s ex-boyfriend is the only person currently under investigation. He has been questioned and remains in police custody, though no charges have been filed at this time.
Authorities noted that his vehicle was discovered Thursday morning near the Saw Mill River Creek—the same location where the suitcase containing Alcantara’s body was found.
Isa Peguero, the victim’s aunt, said the last person Alcantara was known to have seen was her ex-boyfriend. “We are all devastated because this should never have happened,” a family member added.
The investigation remains ongoing.
