Five adults were killed in three separate incidents across Brooklyn and the Bronx on Wednesday, with police also finding a deceased newborn behind a Bronx building, according to NYPD reports.
The first incident occurred just before 8 a.m. in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn, where 34-year-old Kelvin Reynoso was found fatally stabbed near Atlantic Avenue and Monaco Place. Later in the day, police arrested 29-year-old Devon Elliott, charging him with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Officials reported that Reynoso and Elliott lived in the same building on Atlantic Avenue, though no motive has been established.
Just four blocks away, around 11:15 a.m. on Atlantic Avenue and Marconi Place, 35-year-old Ralph Hand was stabbed in the arm and slashed on the head during a verbal dispute. He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests were made, and police have not identified any suspects. Authorities have not found evidence linking this incident with Reynoso’s killing.
The 73rd precinct, covering Brownsville and Ocean Hill, has reported 10 more homicides this year compared to the same period last year, based on NYPD CompStat data reported by Gothamist, despite an overall citywide decline in murder rates.
The day’s violence continued in the Bronx, where police responded to an 8:15 p.m. call at a residence on Southern Boulevard near Avenue St. John in Longwood. At the scene, officers found three people shot: a 57-year-old woman, a 57-year-old man, and a 34-year-old man. The two older victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and the 34-year-old was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was also declared dead. Police have not released the victims’ names, and no suspect or motive has been identified. It’s also unclear whether the victims were related.
Separately, in the Bronx’s Soundview neighborhood, police discovered a deceased newborn girl behind a building on St. Lawrence Avenue and Gleason Avenue. Officials said the infant had her umbilical cord still attached. The Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death, and no arrests have been made.
