For more than one hundred years, the American Academy in Rome has awarded the Rome Prize to leading American composers, who receive the opportunity to live and create in the Eternal City, inspired by the sights and sounds of Italy.
Featuring works by five Rome Prize Fellows. Pieces by Baldwin Giang (2024), Igor Santos (2022), Suzanne Farrin (2018), and Anthony Vine (2024) will be played by the Longleash ensemble, and Kate Soper (2024) will perform with guitarist James Moore. This concert presents a unique musical viewpoint of Americans returning from Rome.
Longleash is an ensemble with a traditional instrumentation and an experimental identity. The trio takes its name from Operation Long Leash, a Cold War–era CIA operation that promoted American avant-garde artists in Europe. With appearances in the United States and abroad, Longleash has earned a reputation for innovative programming, artistic excellence, and new music advocacy.
For this performance, Pala Garcia (piano) and John Popham (cello) will be joined by Mika Sasaki (piano).
