A 39-year-old man was shot in the leg early Tuesday morning in the center of Times Square, police reported. The shooting occurred just after 4 a.m. near the intersection of West 42nd Street and 7th Avenue, an area surrounded by movie theaters and popular attractions.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg and was immediately transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, according to authorities. Police discovered eight shell casings at the scene, although details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. It is not yet known whether the victim was acquainted with the shooter or if there was any confrontation prior to the incident.
Shortly after the gunfire, three teenagers were apprehended, law enforcement sources said. Photos captured by The New York Post show at least one young man being handcuffed and led away from the area by police. Officers have not provided further information regarding any formal arrests.
