A suspected terrorist from Queens who was found in his SUV with a vast arsenal of weapons was ordered detained without bond on Thursday while unsettling new information about the case surfaced in court.
Prosecutors said that during the initial stressful minutes of his contact with the officers on Wednesday morning, Judd Sanson, 29, anxiously groped beneath the seat of his SUV.
Sanson was stopped by alert police mere steps from La Guardia International Airport. Later on, officers discovered a loaded Glock 9mm handgun beneath the driver’s seat.
According to reports, Sanson justified himself to the police claiming that “there is a lot of drunk people nowadays,” when they pulled him up for having his license plates concealed. “I live in Jamaica. I was visiting my uncle.”
According to Queens Assistant District Attorney Dylan Nesturrick, police had previously discovered a knife attached to Sanson’s calf, an MTA bright vest, “a makeshift ax hanging from the ceiling,” and a “makeshift sword” inside the car.
The black Ford Explorer included 179 rounds of ammo, an NYPD bulletproof vest, and around a dozen guns in all, according to the prosecution. Nesturrick added, without providing any details, that detectives discovered a “disturbing photo” on Sanson’s Facebook profile.
Sanson was taken into custody at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. He was interrogated in the 110th Precinct station house before being taken in handcuffs to his court appearance early on Thursday.
In the same hours, police entered and exited the Jamaica Avenue building after carrying out a search order at his father’s flat. According to the prosecution, they discovered a Glock holding case within.
