What a pleasure and a treat meeting with Beppe (Giuseppe) Sinatra and Alessio Ricci of the DimiDimitri Company, which is going to perform three times for the festival In Scena!, in Hoboken, Bronx and on Friday May 15th at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò New York University. This Clowning School and Theater Company, based in Novara, near Milan, is really founded on values of friendship, team work and joy. Under the first hot sun of the season Beppe and Alessio generously showed us how to be an acrobatic performer, but still telling a story, creating a character, renewing the iconic comedy of the 20s Comedy movies by Keaton or Chaplin.
Besides the show, DimiDimitri will offer also workshops (one today in Hoboken and one at Bernie Wohl center on May 16 at 11am)) during the festival, since their policy is promoting cultural activities and Festivals in Italy. One of their goals is also providing theatrical and clowning training for young people, and bringing them together through theater and performance art. They’ve won over ten of awards in Italy, France and Swiss.
The show they bring in New Jersey, Manhattan and Bronx, is aimed to enjoy people of every age, telling the story of a butler trying to lift the spirits of an old lady on her birthday with sketches, jokes and circus-like stunts. Otto (Giuseppe Sinatra) tries everything he can to alleviate her sense of loss for her many departed friends.
