Many voters in the Republican-leaning Long Island county received their voter ID cards in the mail on Tuesday, and a half-million of them noticed a major error: all of the cards say voters are registered Democrats, when in fact they could be Republican, independent, or members of another political party.
The error has caused confusion as the primary is only a month away. The cards were mailed out to inform voters of their voting location. But as a result of the error, many individuals are now upset.
“We’re already starting to get phone calls from people, saying ‘I’m a registered Republican, I’m a registered Conservative – how come I’m being identified as a Democrat? Who changed my registration?’ And they’re quite upset about it,” said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman to NBC.
Blakeman blamed the printing company Phoenix Graphics of Rochester, which has since apologized claiming that it was a human error. They claim the issue is being fixed at no expense to the tax payers, and voter information cards that have been updated will be mailed out shortly.
