A high-speed train travelling from Turin to Naples had an accident in a tunnel in Rome on Friday with the last few carriages reported to have derailed.
All passengers on board were able to get off safely in the Serenissima Tunnel, sources said. Fire teams are at the scene. Trenitalia said high-speed services had been suspended at Roma Prenestina from 14:04. The Italian police said all passengers had been “made safe” and that services in both directions were blocked. The fire service said the rear engine of the train had hit the entrance to the tunnel. A passenger said “we felt the train brake and then saw some smoke in the carriage”.
