Carlos Yulo made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by taking the top spot in the men’s floor and vault events, not only for winning the medal, but for the generous gifts he received from grateful Filipino corporations.
On Saturday night, Yulo made the Philippines proud in Bercy Arena when he beat out previous floor champion Artem Dologopyat of Israel for gold, following it up with another victory the next day when he beat Armenia’s Arthur Davtyan and Britain’s Harry Hepworth in vault.
The Filipino community has expressed much support for Yulo on social media, sharing posts about joy for their representation and “Pinoy pride.”
But the medals are not the only reason for Carlos to be proud and happy. In a grand gesture of appreciation and unprecedented generosity, real estate giant Megaworld Corporation announced that Yulo would be the recipient of a luxurious three-bedroom condominium in their exclusive McKinley Hill development. This reward is a step up from the initially promised two-bedroom condo, a testament to the extraordinary nature of Yulo’s double gold feat. The McKinley Hill township, a sprawling 50-hectare development, is a slice of Southern European charm in the heart of Manila, boasting residential and commercial spaces that mirror the sophistication of Italy and Spain. Its luxury is reserved only for the few.
But that’s not all. Yulo also reportedly won $10 million in cash ($173,000 USD) from the Philippines Sports Commission, $3 million in cash from the country’s House of Representatives, and more.
Yulo expressed joy and gratitude for his wins on Saturday. “I’m so overwhelmed,” he said after the floor routine. “I’m feeling grateful for having this medal and for God. He protected me, as always.”
