Prince Harry is once again at the center of a legal battle regarding his visa to stay in the United States. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, has reopened the lawsuit to obtain the publication of documents related to his entry request, claiming that he may have provided false information about his drug use.
The case had been dismissed last September, but now, with Donald Trump back in office, the think tank has decided to revive the lawsuit, hoping that the new political climate will work in their favor. The hearing is set for February 5 in Washington, DC, and Judge Carl J. Nichols has already summoned the parties to present their arguments in court.
The main issue revolves around the admissions Harry allegedly made in his memoir Spare, where he revealed having used drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, and psychedelic mushrooms. According to the Heritage Foundation, if Harry lied about these revelations on his permanent residency application, he could be expelled from the United States.
The royal descendant from the United Kingdom’s royal family, meanwhile, cannot even count on support from newly elected President Donald Trump , who, when interviewed about the matter by the British newspaper Sunday Express, stated: “I wouldn’t protect him. That would be unforgivable. He’d be on his own if it were up to me.” Trump’s statements about the prince have fueled further controversy surrounding the case.
The outcome of this lawsuit could have significant repercussions not only on the prince’s life but also on the U.S. immigration system, raising concerns about transparency and preferential treatment in entry requests into the country.
