Rumors are now growing stronger that Prince Albert of Monaco and his wife Charlene are headed for divorce. Their marriage “is doomed”. Can this be another case of the so-called Grimaldi curse?
Princess Charlene spent almost a year away from Monaco after falling ill while visiting her native South Africa in May 2021. She then returned to Monaco in November 2021 and was booked into a clinic in Switzerland for four months. Throughout the princess has not been present for royal duties, and many were not convinced her absence was due only to health problems.
Such rumors of an unhappy marriage are nothing new. Already in 2011, at the time of her wedding to Monaco’s reigning prince, she was dubbed the “runaway bride” in the French press after allegedly trying to flee before the wedding. There have also been claims that Albert signed a contract to pay his wife more than £10m a year to fulfil her royal duties.
Royal expert Stephane Bern is among those who speculate that her health has been used to try and disguise relationship problems.
The curse on the House of Grimaldi has ruined couples in the family for decades. As per the insiders, the curse states that the Grimaldis can never find true love or happiness in their married lives, reported International Business Times.
Those who believe in the curse cite several unfortunate romances among the Grimaldis, including the famous love affair between Prince Rainier III and American actress Grace Kelly which ended in her tragic death. Their daughters have also had tumultuous love lives. Princess Caroline has been wed 3 times, and she too became a widow at the death of her husband Stefano Casiraghi. Princess Stephanie has had numerous scandalous relationships, including one with her bodyguard.
