Last week, Crescent Duck Farm, the utmost large duck farm on Long Island had to cull its entire flock of 99,000 ducks as a health prevention measure, due to the bird flu that struck it. This is causing a crisis and uncertainty about the future of the iconic company that was founded in 1908 and which is the last remaining duck farm on Long Island. Doug Corwin, president of Crescent Duck Farm has had to lay off 47 of its 75 employees as its income has plummeted to zero. “My income has completely gone to zero,” he said.
In this regard, the community-run North Fork Brewing Company has organized an event on Saturday in Riverhead, NY, intended to help workers at Crescent Duck Farm, which is currently closed and under quarantine. North Fork Brewing Co. shared the initiative through a message posted on social media, “In a time of need, sometimes it is impossible to ask for help. Our brewery and community have decided to move forward to help our neighbors at Crescent Duck Farms. Our goal is to lend a hand to our community by helping employees face challenges due to “recent unforeseen setbacks.”
“The brewery will also donate $1 for every pint and pack of beers sold that day. It is critical, even if difficult for those asking for assistance, to help friends and family when they need it most,” organizers said.
