A 17-year-old student opened fire in the school cafeteria at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee, resulting in the wounding of one student. The shooter then fatally shot himself, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Two other students, one male and one female, suffered minor injuries.
The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. local time, prompting an immediate lockdown of the school. Metro Nashville Police and other law enforcement agencies quickly responded to the scene. The school district released a statement, saying, “We will be gathering students in the auditorium and will provide information on reunification as soon as possible. This is an active crime scene and investigation”.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Homeland Security, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were all involved in the response efforts. The school district urged parents to go to the reunification site at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital, emphasizing, “Please do not come to Antioch High School”.
