At a press conference yesterday afternoon, Donald Trump said that he will travel to North Carolina on Friday for what will be his first official trip as president. In September and October, the state was hit by two devastating hurricanes.
Immediately afterwards, the President will fly to California, which has recently been affected by numerous wildfires that have brought several parts of Los Angeles to its knees. Over the course of these weeks, Trump has spoken out about these catastrophic events, blaming the former Democratic leadership for failing to provide immediate assistance to the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the disasters.
“Our country can no longer deliver basic services in times of emergency, as recently shown by the wonderful people of North Carolina, who’ve been treated so badly, and other states that are still suffering from a hurricane that took place many months ago,” Trump said. In reality, the state has received all the relief costs from the Biden administration, as well as substantial funding of about $400 million.
The president also recalled the California wildfires, saying that “we are watching fires still tragically burn from weeks ago without even a token of defense.” In the recent past, Trump has also sharply attacked the California administration, headed by Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, which he said was incapable of extinguishing the fires in L.A. However, he fails to note that the city has few fire hydrants, and a water supply that cannot cope with emergencies of such magnitude, since it is a century old.
Newsom himself later invited Trump to travel to Los Angeles so he could see for himself the violence of the fires and the damage they caused. On Friday, therefore, the president will also visit Los Angeles before departing for Nevada, the third and final stop on his first official trip as the White House tenant.
Unlike in 2020, in this last election Trump won the state with more than 50 percent of the vote. “I’m really going to Nevada to thank them for the vote, because we won Nevada overwhelmingly and that’s usually a Democratic vote,” the president said.
At the moment, the MAGA leader has not yet revealed what his first international trip will be. According to the latest rumors, however, it would appear that Trump is considering flying to the Middle East.
