Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has just announced that Attorney General Ashley Moody will succeed Marco Rubio in the Senate following his appointment as Secretary of State by President-elect Donald Trump.
“Today I am proud to announce that I am selecting our attorney general, Ashley Moody, to serve as our next U.S. senator,” DeSantis said at a news conference in Orlando.
He also claimed that she’s “honorably served our people” during her time as the state’s top law enforcement officer.
The Governor then added, “This is a time for action and a time for Washington, D.C., to deliver results for the American people.”
DeSantis highlighted border security as a key priority, stating that Florida would collaborate with the Trump administration to ensure immigration laws are enforced.
On Thursday, he detailed his criteria for the Senate appointment, emphasizing the need for someone who would advance Trump’s agenda, prioritize reducing government spending, recognize the overreach of federal bureaucracy, and commit to combating illegal immigration.
