As Los Angeles mourns the deaths of the 25 people killed in last week’s terrible wildfires, music mogul Irving Azoff, in collaboration with Live Nation, is organizing a mega-concert to raise funds for fire relief organizations, rebuilding infrastructure, supporting displaced families, and advancing prevention technologies and strategies.
The event, dubbed “Fire Aid,” will be held on Jan. 30 at the brand new, giant Intuit Dome, home of the Los Angeles Clippers. The evening will be very similar to the “Concert for New York,” hosted by the Big Apple after the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2011.
Azoff represents bands such as The Eagles, Earth Wind & Fire, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Maroon 5, U2 and more. His son Jeffrey, is Harry Styles’ manager–all these artists may take part in the event later this month. Chelsea Handler might be introducing the various musicians on stage. At the moment no names have been confirmed. What appears certain is that the very exclusive tickets will be priced at a decidedly high price.
The fires broke out last Jan. 6 in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, and quickly spread throughout the city, affecting numerous communities including Altadena, Sylmar, Granada Hills, Studio City, and Runyon Canyon. The flames which spread due to high winds, killed at least 25 people and led to the evacuation of more than 200,000 residents.
Several Hollywood events were also affected by the fires. The premieres of “Wolf Man” and “The Pitt,” for example, were canceled while production of series such as “Fallout,” “Hacks,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Suits: LA” and many others was suspended. Nominations for the Oscars, PGA Awards and WGA Awards also have been postponed, while the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, originally scheduled for Jan. 12, will be delayed to Jan. 26.
