Elon Musk criticized MacKenzie Scott, co-founder of Amazon with ex-husband Jeff Bezos, for donating billions of dollars to nonprofits that promote racial equity, social justice, LGBTQ+ rights and immigrant protections. The world’s richest man, who also owns the platform, Tesla and SpaceX, commented on his X profile that these gifts are “concerning”.
Scott has donated more than $19 billion to more than 2,450 organizations since 2019, while maintaining a net worth of more than $30 billion, Business Insider writes. Musk reposted a tweet by John LeFevre that criticized Scott for “not paying enough attention to the impact she is having on the world’s performance.”
Musk’s intolerance of Scott is of long-standing duration. In 2022, the Tesla CEO said the Democratic Party prioritized political action committees and not his companies based on Scott’s donations. Last March, in a now-deleted tweet, Tesla’s Ceo had accused Scott of being part of the club of “super-rich ex-wives who hate their ex-husbands”—with no confirmation of the veracity of this rumor—and that this category of women is among the “reasons Western civilization is dead.” Shortly thereafter, Scott announced that she was doubling her contributions spread over 361 organizations to $640 million.
Musk, like many others, seems to ignore that Scott played a key role in the creation of Amazon. It was with her help that Bezos was able to launch the company and she helped write its business plan. Even after, she was an active part of running the company. For this, her ex-husband had to give her about 38.3 billion assets when they divorced.
