Chris Cuomo, the brother of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, has just signed a multi-year deal to stay on as host of his evening program on NewsNation.
Cuomo, who was formerly a correspondent with CNN and ABC News, joined NewsNation’s Nexstar Group in 2022; on Monday it was announced that his contract has been renewed and that he will continue to host “Cuomo” in prime time.
Cuomo commented on the deal saying, “Of course I’m staying. Where else but on NewsNation can you expose the game instead of being forced to play? Let’s get on with it!”
Nexstar president Sean Compton himself warmly welcomed the contract renewal, and said, “Chris is a one-of-a-kind talent whose unparalleled analysis and commentary has helped grow NewsNation’s audience and strengthen our brand.” He added that, “[Chris] believes strongly in NewsNation’s mission to provide ‘News for All Americans’ and we are extremely pleased that he will remain a staple of the network’s primetime programming.”
For the record, Chris Cuomo left CNN in late 2021 after it was revealed that he had played an active role in advising his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, during the governor’s sexual harassment scandal. Documents released by New York State Attorney General Letitia James showed that Cuomo, while still employed at CNN, had assisted his brother in organizing his defense, eventually leading to his removal from the network.
Since its launch in 2022, “Cuomo” has seen its ratings double in all key metrics, with a 54 percent increase in total viewers and a 28 percent increase among adults ages 25-54.
