Kimberly Guilfoyle, fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., has been nominated as a U.S. ambassador, just one day after Trump Jr. was spotted hanging out with Florida socialite Bettina Anderson.
On Tuesday, December 10, former President Donald Trump shared on Truth Social that Guilfoyle had been nominated as the U.S. ambassador to Greece.
The announcement came shortly after the Daily Mail published photos of Trump Jr. and Anderson holding hands during a nighttime walk in Palm Beach, Florida, on Monday, December 9, reporting that they were celebrating Anderson’s birthday.
Although neither party has publicly commented on the photos, Trump explained that he chose Guilfoyle for the role because she has been “a close friend and ally” for “many years”.
The president-elect also described the former assistant district attorney and Fox News host as “perfectly suited” to strengthen “strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation.”
Trump added, “Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad.”
Guilfoyle and Don Jr. began dating in 2018 following his divorce from Vanessa, his wife of 12 years. Together, Don Jr. and Vanessa share five children.
In a 2022 interview with Metropolitan Palm Beach magazine, Guilfoyle, who was previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom, reflected on her relationship with Don Jr. She revealed that their first date, after years of knowing each other, was filled with “sparks.”
Guilfoyle reported to the magazine, “Just simply, Don and I are a perfect match. We are similar in many ways and beautifully complement one another in other ways, a true yin and yang. We share the same inner passion and fighting spirit.”
However, in September, sources reported that the couple had allegedly been spending significant time apart. One source described Don Jr. as being more independent than Guilfoyle, coming and going as he pleases and quietly seeing Anderson.
Donald Trump’s decision to appoint Guilfoyle as ambassador may be a strategic move aimed at minimizing controversy for the incoming administration as it prepares to assume office on January 20th.
