Another tragic accident on the roads in California, more specifically in the town of Piedmont, where three young people aboard a Tesla Cybertruck lost their lives. Although authorities have not confirmed the identity of the victims, they were reportedly local teens, 2023 graduates of Piedmont High School: they were on their way home from college to spend Thanksgiving weekend with their families.
The incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday at Hampton Road and King Avenue. Local police reported that when officers arrived, the Cybertruck was engulfed in flames after running off the road and crashing into a tree.
According to initial reports, the victims of this tragic accident are two young men and a young woman. A fourth person who was in the vehicle, however, was miraculously rescued by a passerby before the car was completely engulfed in flames. The sole survivor of the accident, whose identity is still unknown, was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent major surgery. His condition remains critical.

The city’s fire department was also on the scene afterwards and managed to extinguish the flames. Piedmont police are now trying to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident. According to police chief Jeremy Bowers, it is likely that the boys were traveling at too high a speed, crashing first into the retaining wall along the road and then into a nearby tree.
Other circumstances surrounding the cause of the accident and the resulting fire are still under investigation. At the moment, it would appear that neither the crash nor the subsequent blaze were generated by technical failures or malfunctions of the powerful Tesla vehicle.
“Due to the quick nature of being able to suppress the fire, we don’t think the main lithium batteries of the car were on fire, but that’s going to be determined as part of the investigation,” the fire department announced.
Later today, at the traditional “Turkey Run,” an event held annually on Thanksgiving Day, Piedmont Mayor Jen Cavenaugh will give a short speech in which she and the community will remember the three young victim and invite those present to observe a moment of silence.
