During Friday’s episode of the political podcast Pod Save America, Jon Favreau, host of the show, said that President Biden’s internal polling indicated President-elect Trump would secure “400 electoral votes.”
Favreau said on the podcast, “Then we find out when the Biden campaign becomes the Harris campaign, that the Biden campaign’s own internal polling at the time when they were telling us he was the strongest candidate, showed that Donald Trump was going to win 400 electoral votes.”
It is essential to remark that the the hosts of Pod Save America, who worked with Biden in the Obama White House, were notably at the forefront of urging Biden to step aside as the Democratic nominee this summer.
Favreau himself also said that Biden’s reelection bid was a “catastrophic mistake,” saying his “inner circle” refused to believe he was “unpopular.”
He added, “They refuse to acknowledge until very late that anyone could be upset about inflation. And they just kept telling us that his presidency was historic and it was the greatest economy ever.”
A recent AP VoteCast report found out that more than half of voters who expressed being “very concerned about increases in household expenses, such as food and rent,” strongly supported Trump. The poll also revealed that those who prioritized the economy were more likely to side with the former president.
Favreau’s comment comes amid a blame game among Democrats following Vice President Harris’s loss on Tuesday, with some questioning her economic message, arguing that it failed to resonate.
Nancy Pelosi, during an interview with The New York Times, blamed President Biden for exiting the race too late by saying, “Had the President gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race. The anticipation was that if the President were to step aside, that there would be an open primary.”
