Donald Trump allegedly responded with a shocking comment when he was told that then-Vice President Mike Pence’s safety was in danger during the January 6, 2021 Capitol Hill riot, by saying, “So what?”
This alleged remark is one of several pieces of evidence that is included in a 165-page Justice Department document released Wednesday, Oct. 2.
On that very day, Mike Pence delivered a statement just hours before Congress met to certify Joe Biden’s election victory, clarifying to both Donald Trump and the public that he had neither the constitutional authority nor the intention to interfere with the nation’s electoral process.
At 2:24 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2021, Trump posted a message on Twitter (now X) accusing Mike Pence of not having “the courage” to refuse to certify Electoral College votes as directed. Shortly thereafter, Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to obstruct the certification process.
Undisclosed court documents revealed that President Trump was seated in the dining room next to the Oval Office, and that he watched the riot on live television as he continued to post his “mean tweets”.
A former aide to the president reportedly received a phone call which confirmed that Pence had been moved to a secure facility and rushed to inform Trump, hoping that he would “act to ensure Pence’s safety”.
However, according to the documentation, Trump then simply looked at the aide and replied, “So what?”
The undisclosed document also states that Trump’s advisers repeatedly urged him to condemn the acts of violence inside the Capitol, but he refused for hours, delaying his appeal to supporters to go home until 4:17 p.m. by posting a video from the White House Rose Garden.
The federal judge’s decision to release the records a month before the November elections triggered a response from Trump, who claimed: “The release of this falsehood-ridden, Unconstitutional, J6 brief immediately following Tim Walz’s disastrous Debate performance, and 33 days before the Most Important Election in the History of our Country, is another obvious attempt by the Harris-Biden regime to undermine and Weaponize American Democracy, and INTERFERE IN THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION”.
