Milan, the capital of Italian and European fashion, is in the spotlight for the celebration of the annual Fashion Week, with thousands of events and fashion shows attended by celebrities from all over the world.
Prominent among them is the well-known pop star Madonna who received a standing ovation at the Dolce e Gabbana fashion show.
Madonna, who has always been a loyal friend of the two famous Italian designers, has also been an ambassador of the brand since the 1990s, in the process becoming a fashion icon.
Madonna walked into the event wearing a black lace suit from the brand’s latest collection. She completed the look with a gold crown atop a black Chantilly lace veil, casually conversing with her front row neighbors before the show began.
Titled Italian Beauty, the show homaged Madonna’s iconic wardrobe from her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour, designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, and embraced the central theme of Italian elegance and style as well.
Actually, this was not the first time that Dolce & Gabbana had dedicated a collection inspired by the pop star. In 2000 they presented the spring/summer 2001 collection labeled Madonna, Gli Anni Ottanta, which was preceded by costumes designed for The Girlie Show tour in ’92.
“Madonna has always been our icon. It is because of her that many things in our lives have changed,” the designers said in the show remarks.
Jason Hughes, fashion and creative director of Wallpaper magazine, commented after the show that: “Madonna has always engaged in her Italian American heritage long before she became Madonna the pop star and she has a long history with Dolce & Gabbana”.
As the Fashion Week goes on, it is truly remarkable that Madonna still holds a special place in both the artist/designers and fans all over the world and continues to inspire such dedication to the fashion industry.
