An Amsterdam-bound Delta Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at JFK airport after passengers were reportedly served “contaminated food”.
The Delta flight 136 from Detroit was ready to take off over the Atlantic when flight attendants radioed medical professionals on the ground, who promptly directed it to JFK.
“Delta flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam diverted to New York’s JFK early Wednesday morning after it was discovered that a portion of the in-flight meal service was spoiled,” a Delta Airlines spokesperson told the Daily Mail.
About 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the airplane safely touched down at JFK, where medical staff were mobilized to monitor any critical issues. With 277 people on board, the plane had taken off from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday and was scheduled to land in the Netherlands at 4:15 a.m. local time on July 4.
A dozen of people reportedly became ill after consuming the tainted food.
