A shooter who killed five people and seriously wounded another person at an apartment complex outside Las Vegas eventually took his own life, bringing an end to a day-long manhunt on Tuesday.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, Eric Adams, 57, shot himself to death in the backyard of a house in the 1600 block of Dwayne Stedman Avenue after disobeying orders from authorities to put down his gun.
Just after 10 a.m., authorities had arrived at an apartment in the 300 block of Casa Norte Drive and started looking for the suspect. At the residence, authorities found two middle-aged women who appeared to have been shot and were both declared deceased on the spot. There, officials also found a 13-year-old girl with serious gunshot wounds all over her body. She was later sent to the trauma center at University Medical Center.
In a nearby apartment, law enforcement later found a man in his early 20s and two women in their mid-20s dead from what appeared to be additional gunshot wounds.
Following the gunshot, Adams reportedly left the area, prompting the police to launch an overnight manhunt for the “armed and dangerous” suspect. According to ABC 13, the police did not find him until Tuesday morning at around 10 a.m. inside a business located in the 1500 block of Lake Mead Boulevard, close to M.L.K. Boulevard.
When the authorities ordered him to down his firearm, Adams reportedly disobeyed them, turned the pistol on himself, and shot himself. He was pronounced dead on the spot.
Motive for the massacre remains unknown as investigators are working to ascertain the dynamics of the murders.
