Rolling Stones leader Mick Jagger appeared to again make tongue-in-cheek comments toward former U.S. President Donald Trump during the iconic rock band’s performance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta last Friday.
Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that during Jagger’s introduction of “Sweet Virginia,” the singer acknowledged that the band had intended to perform “Wild Horses,” but they needed “11,000 more votes”. He also mentioned that a “more important vote” will be held in November.
“We wanted to play ‘Wild Horses,'” Jagger reportedly said to the crowd. “All we needed was 11,000 more votes. There’s a more important vote coming up in November. Don’t forget to vote in that one.”
The remark was interpreted as a reference to the 11,780 votes Trump had requested from Republican Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to help him overturn the state’s 2020 election results in his favor, resulting in the launch of a criminal investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
This follows the indictment of Trump and eighteen co-defendants by a Georgia grand jury in August, when they were charged with criminal racketeering for allegedly trying to rig the state’s electoral results in favor of Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Trump has entered a not guilty plea, as have the other defendants.
“Mick can’t always get what he wants. President Trump will return to the White House because Americans are sick and tired of having a weak, failed, and dishonest leader like Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement.
