A resounding majority of Americans, 86%, believe that President Joe Biden is too old to hold public office for another term, according to a recent ABC News/Ipsos survey.
However, of the 86%, while 27% of Americans believe that only Joe Biden is too old, 59% believe that both he and Republican front-runner Donald Trump, are too old.
Overall, a slightly smaller but still a majority number of Americans – 62 percent – also believe Donald Trump, who is 77, is too old to be president.
Partisan perceptions of their respective nominees diverge significantly; 73% of Democrats believe Biden is too elderly to serve, while just 35% of Republicans share this opinion. Of independent voters, 91% believe Biden is too elderly to serve, while 71% believe Trump is too old.
The latest survey follows the release of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report last week, which raised questions about Biden’s mental health but recommended that he not be prosecuted for handling secret materials while he was not in office. Kamala Harris, the vice president, referred to the study as “politically motivated.”
