Rosalynn Carter, former first lady and dedicated humanitarian, who passed away on November 19 at the age of 96, is currently in repose at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. The public has been extended an invitation to pay their respects during this period.
Rosalynn Carter’s remains were conveyed via a motorcade to Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia. Along the motorcade route, the public was welcomed to pay their respects. The casket then reached the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex at Georgia Southwestern State University, an institution attended by both Rosalynn and Jimmy. A formal wreath-laying ceremony took place as well.
This marks the initial day of a three-day series of services honoring Rosalynn Carter, who shared 77 years of marriage with Jimmy Carter. A tribute service is scheduled for Tuesday, and the former president is anticipated to be in attendance, as per the Carter Center. Chip Carter, their son, mentioned to The Washington Post that his father was in the process of having a suit tailored for the funeral, as his current suits no longer fit due to his ailing health.
The tribute service on Tuesday, expected to be attended by President Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, and living first ladies Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, and Melania Trump, will be held at Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University. Former President Bill Clinton, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Georgia first lady Marty Kemp, other state elected officials, and members of the congressional delegation are also expected to participate. Last week, President Biden ordered the flags at the White House to be flown at half-staff in honor of Rosalynn.
It is noted that the service on Tuesday is reserved for invited guests, according to the Carter Center.
