Two people were killed and eighteen injured in an early Sunday morning shooting on a Tampa street during Halloween celebrations, according to authorities, turning a brawl between two groups into a tragic incident. At least one suspect is being sought, while another is already in custody.
During a news conference, Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw stated that at least two gunmen opened fire on East 7th Avenue in the Ybor City neighborhood shortly before three in the morning.
According to Bercaw, there were a lot of late-night partygoers in the vicinity when the fight broke out. Before the shooting, the police did not know for sure if any of the individuals fighting had been inside any of the pubs.
Online footage shows people drinking and conversing on the street, many of them dressed in Halloween costumes, when suddenly roughly twelve bullets are fired, followed a few seconds later by another eight, causing a rush. Some folks fall over metal tables and hide in the shadows. Police personnel are seen treating many wounded victims who are laying on the ground in footage from the aftermath.
Authorities have stated that they are aware of a “disturbance or issue between the two groups” and that a male individual who has not been named but is suspected of being engaged in the event has “turned himself in, and detectives are interviewing him now.”
