At least five victims have been verified by the Police Department in this morning’s shooting at the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky, by a 23-year-old former bank employee who was killed in the firefight and identified as Connor Sturgeon. Eight were injured, including a law enforcement officer who was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Sturgeon wrote a note to his parents and a friend indicating that he was going to do a bank shooting. It is unclear whether the note was paper or emailed, nor whether it was seen before the incident.
The incident was live-streamed on Instagram by the shooter himself. Police are in possession of the video.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said at a press conference that he had lost friends in the shooting. “This is terrible. Two dear friends didn’t make it today, another was injured and I hope he makes it,” he added, explaining that the Old National Bank where the shooting occurred is his bank.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg instead asked for prayers for those currently in the hospital “wounded, fighting for their lives due to another act of gun violence.”
He also thanked the “brave and heroic” rescue workers for their prompt and rapid response. “Without a doubt, their actions saved lives. Despite tragedies like today’s, when more people are killed by gun violence, our community continues to come together.”
The weapon used in the shooting was an AR-15 type rifle.
President Joe Biden condemned yet another shooting by posting a Tweet in which he said, “Once again, our nation mourns after a senseless act of gun violence-Jill and I pray for the lives lost and affected by today’s shooting. Too many Americans are paying the price of inaction with their lives. When will Republicans in Congress act to protect our communities?”
