Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, tripped and fell in a Washington hotel and was taken to the hospital on Wednesday evening while dining at the hotel, according to a spokeswoman.
“This evening Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner,” the spokeswoman said. “He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving appropriate treatment.”
The spokeswoman did not detail the injuries sustained by the Republican.
According to Punchbowl News reporters, the minority leader reportedly fainted while attending an event at the Waldorf Astoria DC.
McConnell was first elected to the Senate in 1984 and was re-elected for a seventh term in 2020. He served as Senate majority leader from 2015 until early 2021, when Democrats took over the majority after the 2020 elections.
