“An honor and a strong emotion to have the opportunity to dialogue with the Holy Father on the great issues of our time.”
With these words Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican – the first since her election – to which she went this morning with her partner Andrea Giambruno and daughter Ginevra. Meloni later met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, secretary of state, accompanied by Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.
During the cordial talks in the Secretariat of State, good bilateral relations were emphasized and some issues related to the Italian social situation were mentioned, with particular reference to problems related to the fight against poverty, the family, the demographic phenomenon and the education of young people. In the continuation of the conversation, international issues were considered, with special reference to Europe, the conflict in Ukraine and migration.
The conversation between the premier and the pontiff, which lasted just over half an hour, took place in the Library Hall.
At the time of the gift exchange, Pope Francis gave Meloni a bronze work entitled “Social Love,” symbolizing a child helping another get up, with the inscription “Amare Aiutare”.
