The Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) is launching a new academy that aims to find new talent and expand the base of players that can be called on for the national team of coach Roberto Mancini.
The move is part of Italian soccer’s response to Italy failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. Thanks to an agreement between the FIGC and Italy’s professional soccer leagues, the academy will start selecting and working with players considered of importance to the national team from the age of 15.
The academy’s first session will take place May 24-26, and the aim is for the sessions to be monthly.
