After years of attempts and price cuts, Rupert Murdoch has finally bid farewell to his opulent penthouse in New York City.
The 93-year-old media mogul, who recently tied the knot with his fifth wife, Russian-born Elena Zhukova, has finally sold the stunning 7,000-square-foot apartment perched above the city’s stunning skyline near the Flatiron Building and Madison Square Park.
The grand finale came at a price of $23.8 million—nearly one third of what he initially sought back in 2015, $72 million. Murdoch reportedly listed again in 2022, this time for $62 million.
Since then, the listing price has gradually decreased. The property was temporarily removed from the market in December 2023, but it was relisted in April for $38.5 million, and it was cut by another $10 million two months later.
It’s been a long journey for the media tycoon, who initially purchased the three-floor apartment at the One Madison building in 2014, before it was even completed. The home, designed by renowned architect Jose Ramirez, was a masterwork of luxury, featuring a “Great Room” that soared into the sky, five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a library, and a 586-square-foot terrace that provided unparalleled vistas of the city.
While the sale may have closed the door on this chapter, Murdoch remains deeply rooted in New York. His real estate holdings are legendary—ranging from a sprawling vineyard in California to a ranch in Australia—and his New York base remains solid. Just last year, he purchased a stunning $35.2 million apartment overlooking Central Park.
The penthouse may be gone, but the media mogul’s ties to the city remain strong.
