A 15-year-old boy is in custody after allegedly shooting a man to death in broad daylight just steps from a Bronx courthouse on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The attack unfolded around 2:40 p.m. near East 161st Street and Morris Avenue, where officers from the 44th Precinct reportedly saw the teenager pull out a firearm and open fire on a 29-year-old man, according to authorities.
The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest and was rushed to Lincoln Hospital by emergency responders. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, the NYPD confirmed.
Officers who had witnessed the shooting gave chase as the young suspect fled the scene, apprehending him several blocks away at East 156th Street and Courtlandt Avenue. A firearm was recovered during the arrest, police said.
As of late Wednesday, the teenager remained in police custody, with charges pending. Investigators are working to determine if the shooting was connected to gang activity, sources familiar with the case said. The investigation remains ongoing.
