The FAA has ordered a “ground stop” for all flights on American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Airlines, amid a widespread global IT outage that has now affected numerous airlines across the United States.
This expansive technical issue adds to the list of businesses worldwide who have been impacted by the massive IT outage linked to a software update on Microsoft Windows operating systems issued by Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity firm.
“The FAA is closely monitoring a technical issue impacting IT systems at U.S. airlines. Several airlines have requested FAA assistance with ground stops until the issue is resolved. Monitor fly.faa.gov for updates,” the agency said in a statement on X.
This outage is expected to cause significant delays at airports across the state. The FAA has advised anyone with travel plans to contact the airline before going to the airport.
