A man was killed in a daytime shooting in Harlem on Tuesday afternoon.
The armed attack started at around 1:39 p.m. close to the intersection of Frederick Douglass Boulevard and West 118th Street, according to police sources.
When 28th Precinct officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a male victim who had been shot in the back and was not yet identified. The injured man was taken by emergency medical services to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he was declared dead. His name has not yet been made public by police pending notification of his relatives.
The NYPD was not aware of any potential motivation for the shooting as of yet. They discovered an abandoned Honda several streets away, close to the junction of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and West 118th Street, during their investigation. According to people involved with the inquiry, the shooting suspect might have used the vehicle that had been abandoned in the middle of the road.
According to the most current CompStat data, there have been seven shootings in the 28th Precinct in the first half of 2024, which is two more than there were at the same time in 2023 (five). Concurrently, the command recorded the same number of homicides from the same period last year, which is three so far this year.
Police reported that no arrests have been made thus far.
